Teaching Approach

Each student is unique. My teaching emphasizes clarity, efficiency, and healthy technique, while encouraging curiosity, independence, and expressive freedom. Lessons are structured yet flexible, combining technical work with musical context and practical tools for effective practice.

Core areas of focus include:

  • Efficient and healthy technique

  • Sound production and bow control

  • Left-hand clarity and intonation

  • Musical structure, style, and interpretation

  • Effective practice strategies

  • Performance preparation and confidence

I work closely with students to establish clear objectives and realistic pathways for progress, helping them learn how to practice independently, efficiently, and creatively.

Experience & Background

I bring over twenty-five years of teaching experience in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia. My pedagogical approach is informed by extensive university teaching, international masterclasses, and long-term work with young musicians in conservatories, festivals, and private studios.

I have served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Cello at Ohio University and as a Resident Artist at the Atlantic Music Festival, where I have taught individual lessons, chamber music, and cello pedagogy for nearly a decade.

Repertoire & Specializations

I teach a broad range of repertoire, from Baroque and Classical works to Romantic, modern, and contemporary music. Particular areas of expertise include:

  • Contemporary and 20th/21st-century repertoire

  • Rhythm, meter, and complex notation

  • Chamber music coaching

  • Audition and competition preparation

  • University and conservatory entrance exams

  • Career development for young professionals

My work as a performer and recording artist with Trio Fibonacci, as well as my long-standing involvement in new music, informs my teaching and allows me to guide students confidently through both traditional and modern repertoire.

Who I Teach

I welcome:

  • Students of all ages and levels of experience

  • Children and teenagers in pre-college programs

  • University and conservatory students

  • Advanced amateurs

  • Emerging professionals seeking refinement or audition preparation

I regularly work with younger students and beginners, guiding them carefully through their early technical and musical development, as well as with advanced students preparing exams, auditions, and performances.

Lesson Formats

Lessons are offered:

  • In person at my private studio near the Université de Montréal metro station

  • Online, for students who prefer or require remote instruction

Lesson length and frequency are determined in consultation with each student, based on age, level, and goals.

Beyond the Lesson

In addition to technical and musical training, I support students in developing a broader artistic path. Drawing on decades of international performing, teaching, and arts administration experience, I regularly mentor students in:

  • Performance opportunities and career planning

  • Portfolio careers and ensemble work

  • Professional presentation and artistic identity

This broader perspective helps students situate their musical work within a sustainable and meaningful artistic life.
